i absolutely love the way you split your "fractal paintings" in several pieces... very inspiring for me... would you mind if i "copy" this style for my photo manipulations?
These are great. If you don't mind me asking, how do you get the center piece different from the outside two? If it's a trade secret it's ok but I've been curious since seeing your triptyches a while back.
Thanks very much, Tara. No, it's not a trade secret. It's a technique called "Masking". I had a different background for the middle, and used a mask so the sides wouldn't show through. Likewise for the sides. I know there's a few tutorials on DA that explain masking, in case you aren't familiar with it. Here's a link to one of them [link]
Yes, I've recently learned how to mask. I'd been trying to learn how for weeks now, tearing apart others params, using tuts (including Jim's awesome tutorial ), etc, until one day it just clicked and I had it! I still have a ways to go until I'm good at it, I have the basic skill to work from now.
As for your technique, I spent most of the day before trying different frame formulas, lol. Then I went hunting in mappings. Although I wasn't able to come close to what you'd done I did find some cool stuff for my WIP files.
Tara
If you search, you'll find more, I'm sure.

Thanks for the reply.
